Welcome to Miss Creek's Homepage!

 

Hi! I am Miss Creek, school counselor for grades 3-5 and I LOVE MY JOB! Everyday I get to work with wonderful students and watch them learn and grow. 

Below is a list of some of the school counseling programs I conduct throughout the year:

 

- Newcomer's Club - This is a lunch group for all new students. This group gives students who are new to Hillsboro Elementary a chance to meet other new students, learn about our school, and work on social skills (such as making friends). 

- Conflict Managers- This is a program for 4th and 5th grade students. Students have a chance to sign up to be a conflict manager and go through training with the counselor. During this training students will learn conflict resolution skills. Students then take turns being "On Duty" during their recess and they help their peers with problem solving and conflict resolution. 

- Counselor's Good Apples- This program is based on character education. Each month a teacher will nominate a student from their classroom that displayed exemplary character for that month. The students will receive a certificate, prize, and have their picture taken to be put in a special place in the hallway, as well as the local newspaper!

- Anger Management Group- Everyone gets angry. Sometimes students need to learn appropriate ways to handle themselves when they get angry at school. This counseling group focuses on teaching students how to recognize their anger triggers and coming up with strategies they can use in school to help resolve their anger. 

- Behavior Group- This counseling group focuses on teaching students appropriate ways to behave in a school setting.

- All About Me Group- This is a counseling group that focuses on building students' self-esteem and learning about friendship skills.

-Grief Group- This counseling group focuses on helping students understand the grief process. Students work through the emotions they feel when they lose a loved one, create a workbook of the loved one, and have a chance to share and work with other students who have experienced a loss. 

- B.U.G. Awards- These awards are given at the end of the nine weeks for students who have brought up a grade in one area without letting any of the other grades drop.

- Classroom Guidance- Throughout the school year I may go into the classrooms and teach various lessons to students about different topics, such as bullying. 

- Individual Counseling- I also meet with many students on an individual basis.
