No Child Left Behind Parent Options

Public School Choice (PSC) and Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
On January 8, 2002, President Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. This law provides parents and families new options if your child’s school has been identified in need of school improvement. School improvement means that a school did not meet the required Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two years in a row. AYP is determined by how students in the school score on the Ohio Achievement tests in reading and math. The following charts indicate the improvement statuses for the the Hillsboro City School District and the schools in the district that did not meet AYP based on data since the 2007-08 school year.

To view the schools’ state report card or to compare the schools to others in Ohio, please visit the state website at http://www.ode.state.oh.us. Under the NCLB Act, parents have the choice of moving their child to another school if the child attends a school that receives Title I federal funds and is in school improvement status. This option is called Public School Choice (PSC).
Additionally, the NCLB Act states that if a child attends a Title I school that is in Year 2 or more of school improvement status, the child may be eligible to receive Supplemental Educational Services (SES)/tutoring in reading or math. To be eligible for these services, the child must meet the income limits under the law (i.e. your child must be eligible for free/reduced breakfast/lunch). These services are offered by state approved providers and occur outside of the regular school day. The following chart lists the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) approved SES providers for Hillsboro schools.
