This school year, the Hillsboro Elementary school counselors worked with the specials teachers to develop an "Anti-Bullying Week." During the week of December 17th through December 21st, all students in the school participated in different activities during their specials times. The lessons and activities focused on anti-bullying messages and teaching about kindness towards others.
During the week, the art teachers had the students participate in making quilt squares that had a message about bullying or being kind to others. The quilt was displayed at the school for six weeks. The school counselors then contacted some community businesses to see if they would be interested in displaying a portion of the quilt for 2-3 weeks. Kroger, Kmart, McDonald's and Merchants National Bank have all agreed to display the quilt.
We would like the parents and members of the community to know that Hillsboro City Schools are working hard to educate students about bullying and teaching about kindness. We invite you to please take time to view the bullying quilts on display at local businesses.
